A Mother's Education Advent: Advent Readings, Advent Devotional
dvent invites us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, to watch and wait with expectation, and to keep the season with intention while we make our homes ready for Christmas. This Mother’s Education offering is a guided companion for the four weeks of Advent, made for mothers who want their own formation to be as thoughtful and living as the education they offer their children.
Rooted in Charlotte Mason’s vision of education as the formation of the whole person, this study is designed to fit gently inside a full December. It offers a place to order your loves, sharpen your attention, and keep an expectant hush in your heart during a season that so easily fills with hurry. Through the writing of C. S. Lewis and the Gospel of Matthew.
This 4-week program is designed to help you cultivate a habit of learning, deepen your appreciation for living books, nature, and journaling, and build confidence in your own education. Each week includes:
-Curated readings that bring wisdom and beauty to your own preparation for Christmas.
-Reflection sheets to record your reading and what the Lord is stirring in your heart through the season.
-Community support through two Zoom gatherings held on Mondays at 3:00 pm EST, with playbacks emailed on Fridays and an interactive discussion group in Band.
-A weekly art print for picture study featuring works of the Nativity and Advent story, offering a window into beauty and contemplation.
-Weekly hymns that connect you to the long history of the Church’s waiting for Christ.
-Winter nature study invitations to bring the watching of Advent outdoors.
-Guidance on key notebooking practices, including commonplacing, nature journaling, and written narration.
-Weekly emails to encourage and edify you.
The Booklist:
Together we will be reading through:
Devotional:
Advent in Narnia: Reflections for the Season by Heidi Haverkamp
Scripture:
The Gospel of Matthew
Family Read-Aloud:
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
Poetry:
Poems by CS Lewis
This season was made with homeschooling mothers in mind, and it is open to any mother who longs to rekindle her own love of learning and keep Advent with care. In the dedication of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, C. S. Lewis told his goddaughter that “some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” May this Advent bring you back through the wardrobe, deepen your wonder at the coming of the King, and prepare your heart for Christmas.
Advent with Aslan begins November 28, on the eve of the first Sunday of Advent.
